FAQ

Installation

Q. Does my car have an OBDii connector?
A. If your car was built after 1996 then it should have one. It will look something like this.
Q. Where is my OBDii connector?
A. The international standard is that all OBDii connectors should be within 3ft of the drivers seat and accessible without tools. Start by looking under the driver side dash, then the passenger side and the centre console. Do not forget to look under flaps. If in doubt ask a mechanic.
Q. Will connecting to the OBDii socket effect the cars computer?
A. Only the power pins are physically present in the connector therefore it is impossible for it to connect to your on-board computer.
Q. Where is the best place to mount the TL1000?
A. We recommend near the window screen pillar next to the driver. This will mean its in easy reach should you want to press the way point button and is not in line of site of the road. If you are in a location where sunlight can cause elevated temperatures beyond the unit's maximum temperature range then consider placing it in the glove compartment.

Software

Q. When I do a sync it keeps telling me to set my password, why?
A. The data is encrypted in the logger using the password. Until you change from the default any one can see where you have been.
Q. What do I do once I sync?
A. To get the best out of reporting you need to identify the places you visit and assign them a category. If a place is clearly business set the category to business, if you are unsure, leave it unassigned. Locations which are clearly personal should be set to personal. It is best to leave your home address unassigned as trips from home could be personal or business.
Q. Can I merge trips.
A. Yes just select the trips you want to merge (they have to be in-line) right click and select merge or press ctrl M
Q. I deleted a trip but want it back what do I do
A. Do not worry it will be in the recycle bin. Click on Recycle (if you can't see the recyle bin tab, click View and check Recycle bin), right click on the trip you want to restore and select restore.
Q. Why will my data on the recorder be deleted by changing the password?<
A. Security of your data is very important to us so we encrypt the data in the recorder using the password as a key. As the same password is used to decrypt it, you would not be able to read previous data using a new password.
Q. If I decide to start a new database do I have to re-enter all my place details?
A. Not at all you can import your custom place information from an existing database. Click Import Database from the file menu and choose the database from which you want to import. All the places information from that database will be imported to your new database.
Q. I have just clicked Erase by mistake, can I cancel the command?
A. If you have not yet powered the TL1000 up off the computer then all is not lost. Just download and run the TL1000 Sound and Light mod application, there is an option to restore an erase.
Q. Can I export a trip to view in Google Earth™?
A. Yes, just select the trip or merged trips you want to view in Google Earth™, right click and select Export as KML file. Then from Google Earth™ open the file. Under the Places section in the left hand column of Google Earth™ locate your loaded Trip. It should appear under Temporary Files. From there you can view the start or end or fly the whole trip in Google Earth™.

Usage

Q. Its bleeped at me what does that mean?
A. There are a number of occasions when the logger may issue a bleep: If you have just moved off before the logger has established its position, if the logger looses its power or looses satellite coverage.
Q. How often do I need to upload the data to my PC?
A. The logger has capacity to record a years worth of driving 4 hours/day. However, we recommend you do not leave it that long; there's potentially a lot of data to loose if it went missing. A large database will also take longer to sync. We recommend you sync at least once per month. You can erase the memory after syncing every 2-3 months if required.

General

Q. What do I do if I have lost my password?
A. There is only one option, return the unit back to us and we will recover it. Be warned there is a fee.
Q. The Logger fails to get a fix.
A. Ensure the TL1000 can see the sky. Some cars have windscreen heaters/reflectors that block out all radio signals. They usually have a section that is free from the screening so try and place the logger in that section. If that fails then please contact us, we will try and find a solution.
Q. Can I turn off the Sounder and the LED?
A. Yes, download and run the TL1000 Sound and Light mod application to control the sound and light options.
